Vespasian Sestertius Fake ???

Hi,

I received a message from a member of the forum who has not a good feeling with this coin.

He said that a lot of dealers and experts (for example Moruzzi, Italy) considered it is not authentic.

"It seems that it is one of the last products of the well know industry of forgeries that is active in the area near Rome, and the patina is really really convincing."

With the coin in hand I can see nothing wrong but the style of the portrait is very strange.

What do you think?

Is you coin the ex-Gorny & Mosch, ex-NAC?

It was sold for CHF10,000 last year, and auctioned again this year at a cheaper price.

yes it is the coin from Gorny & Mosch.

But the Details of the Portrait are really strange. Have a look at the chin. A good Picture to see it is the NAC photo.

The reverse is from the same die as the other two examples.

So if just based on the (wrong) bust style, it would implies that the four previous coins are....

Regarding only the style question, I believe it is a good sign. And some of the other coins have been so heavily tooled that it is hard to think they were not genuine. So  it is  probable that both obverse and reverse really exist.
