Elagabale, tu as assurément un très bel as de Nîmes...

Le premier est absolument superbe !
Les oxydes verts ont l'air tres legers... Facile a enlever.
Malheureusement, elle devait etre collee avec d'autres monnaies, ce qui a créé ces manques de metal..

Obv. IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG PM PMTRP PP COS III, laureate bust right
Rev. IVDAEA CAPTA S C, palm tree, to left bearded Jew with cloak over shoulders standing right, hands tied behind back, behind him two shields and spear with helmet, or helmet-like die break, attached below the spear's tip; to right Jewess, veiled, seated right on cuirass, supporting head with hand in attitude of mourning, a shield protrudes from behind her knees
Mint: Rome, 71 AD.

The following June Titus returned to Rome and celebrated a magnificent triumph with Vespasian, this whole series of events being commemorated by the extensive "Judaea Capta" coinage.

This coin is from the collection of Bruno, one member of this forum. He sold his AE coins of Valerian's family in 2008. I think that this coin was purchased by another member, Icos (who was on FAC), who sold it after on ebay to you...

Because both are friends. And in 2008, I was younger, and I didn't have enough money to buy some of these coins.
And this tragedy still haunts me !

I think all of us have met coins which we could not afford at that moment, too. this is annoying, but we should not grieve after the coins! A good friend, also collector, said to me, that the young collector will meet such coins sometime again, even in a better condition and quality. and then one can buy such pieces! but one has to be patient, and that's my problem for example!

of course kc, impatience is our ennemy

It is the triumphal arch of Drusus, which was build 9 BC. and belonged to the aqueduct Aqua Marcia. Today it is standing behind the Porta San Sebastiano, which is a city gate of the Aurelian wall in Rome. The Via Appia went through the city gate and also through the triumphal arch.
