This is apparently only the third known specimen in the world, the other two being in Vienna and La Venera hoard. My coin shares the same pair of dies as the Vienna specimen (information from Ph. Gysen) as well as the reverse die with the Venera specimen (information from J. Guillemain).

A coin of the highest rarity and numismatic interest!

Currently only 23 specimens of this reverse legend are known (information from Ph. Gysen). My specimen is however the only one from officina delta and the only one to have the scarce IMP C M AVR PROBVS PIVS AVG obverse legend. Therefore it is a true unicum and of the highest numismatic interest!

You are of course right that on coin no. 6 the exergue reads XXIVI not XXVI. It would have been highly unusual it if had been XXVI. Even though I try to be as careful as possible similar mistakes unfortunately happen from time to time, especially when one prepare so many descriptions…

As for coin no. 9 I respectfully disagree with you and uphold my opinion that it is an extremely rare coin, not only “rare”.  To be precise, it is only the fourth coin of this type (RIC 912 VAR.) from officina “Q”  in the world known to me AND THE ONLY SPECIMEN out of these four with the shield decoration in the form of Emperor on Horse/Pegasus instead of no decoration at all or Gorgoneion.

The other three coins from officina “Q” known to me are the following:

1. NN 49/706 (Gorgoneion on shield; incorrectly described by Christophe as “R” only):

By the way, RIC 912 is extremely rare no matter the officina and I believe that each coin with this reverse type deserves a R3 note. I know of only one specimen from officina “P” (Marijan Rabik collection), one specimen from officinal “S” (PG collection), only one from officinal “V” (Ebay, 2016-05-28; currently in Gianni’s collection) and 4 specimens from officinal “T” (2 in PG collection, one in M.Vosper collection; one in my collection – below I attach a link of mine specimen from officinal “T”  http://probuscoins.fr/coin?id=2794 ).

So only 11 specimens of RIC 912 in total are known to me (all 5 officinae included). This is really very, very few, considering how many hundred, if not thousands, specimens of other reverses from Cyzicus (e.g. RIC 911, 913, 904 or 905) survived to this day. This is mainly why RIC 912 is so desirable and expensive today. It is one of only 7 reverse types struck at Cyzcius [ADVENTVS PROBI AVG, CLEMENTIA TEMP, CONDORDIA MILITVM, RESTITVTOR EXERCITI, SOLI INVICTO, VIR-ADV (RIC 913) and VIR-1 (RIC 912)], but – as you can see – by far the rarest of them all!

Of course, there might be somewhere a few more specimens of RIC 912 from each officina, I do not know of. If you know them, please send me links or cite relevant literature. I will appreciate it greatly as I always try to expand my rare Probus database whenever I get a chance. I highly doubt however that there are as many as dozens or more of unknown RIC 912 specimens…

To answer your question, yes, I collect primarily Probus and a little bit of Aurelian.

About 45% of my Probus collection is already available at probuscoins.fr (write Skibniewski in the Mots-clés section and only my coins will be selected). My whole Probus collection is available on Forvm Ancient Coins.

Effectivement, l'abondance du monnayge de Probus est enorme et c'est l'une des raisons "pour qu'il y ait autant d'inédits qui se baladent". L'autre raison cependant est la manque d'un actualise corpus sur monnayge de Probus. Le RIC V.II a ete ecris dans 1933 et est universellement considere comme le pire des 10 volumes du RIC... Il y a beaucoup, beaucoup de monnaies quie ne sont pas listees dans le RIC. Il y a aussi pas mal des monnaies descrites dane le RIC mais qui en realite n'existent pas du tout...

Dans ces circonstences tous les probusophiles attendre avec impatience les travaux de S. Estiot/Ph. Gysen sur le nouveau RIC V.II et les travaux de J. Guillemain sur la II part du Venera tresor consacre a Probus.

Last but not least, I must give myself some credit and state that I have quite an eye for Probus ineditums:)

Je pense que IOVI va les intégrer (avec ton accord bien sur)dès qu'il les aura vus, dans sa base de données !

IOVI (Christophe) les a deja vu mais en ce moment il est preoccupe d'integrer dans sa base de donnees la collection M.Griffiths. Donc ca prendra encore un peu de temps avant que mes nouvelles monnaies soient ajoutees.

De toute facon Il a mon accord bien sur depuis longtemps. Comme j'ai ecris supra Il a deja integre environ 500 des mes monnaies dans sa base de donnes, donc un peu pres 45% de ma Probus collection.
